Determine the most important task

  1. Explore some location

  2. Look up detail information

  3. Collection some locations

  4. Create a new itinerary

  5. Edit an itinerary

  6. Share an itinerary

Discover the most concern and define research goals

Research Goal #1: Explore and collect a place

Research Goal #2: Create a new itinerary for a trip with preference label

Research Goal #3: Edit an existing itinerary efficiently

Background Overview

Recently, friends and I have been planning a trip to Copenhagen, Denmark in June, using the "My WAY" app to plan our itinerary.

Task #1: Use the MY Way app to find places of interest in Denmark that you'd like to visit, and keep them.

Task #2: Create a new Denmark trip named "Sis Getaway in Copenhagen" and add personal travel preferences.

Task #3: Edit the itinerary for the second day of the Denmark trip(Sis Getaway in Copenhagen), plan to find a restaurant and participate in an experience activity.

Conduct Usability Testing

Prepare an interactive prototype and recruit 5 participants to conduct usability testing, with each session lasting about 30 minutes. During the testing, do Single Ease Question (SEQ) and System Usability Scale (SUS) surveys and interviews to gather feedback.

04 Test - Quantitative Result

126 seconds

126 seconds

Task 1 took 2.7 and 1.8 times longer than tasks 2 and 3, respectively. Users need time to familiarize themselves with the application during their initial use.

40%

Task 2 had a completion rate of only 40% and an SEQ score of 44, indicating a high threshold for the initial action of creating a new trip.

100%

Achieving a completion rate of 100% for Task 3. This indicates that while the app has a high learning curve, users will gradually get the hang of it. However, better guidance and instructions are also needed.

04 Test - User Interview

Based on observations of user behavior during the testing process, we encourage testers to share their most genuine thoughts through open questions.

I usually save or bookmark places I'm interested in and then organize my itinerary sequentially, rather than adding them to the itinerary as soon as I find them appealing.

Change the primary icon to add to the wishlist feature, and besides categorization, Wishlist also needs an overview of all items.

Mistakenly thought that the homepage was a personal page, only to find the locked city displayed.

Based on the added itinerary locations, offer a personalized page to shorten the exploration process.

Route planning takes priority but is also the most cumbersome part.

Enable one-click sorting based on user wishlist to streamline the process.

I would first use Google to search, read blog posts for recommendations, and then use different apps to organize my itinerary, book accommodations, and flights separately.

Integrate planning and booking functionalities for a one-stop solution.

1.1b Explore - For You

Offered two versions for users: one for those in the exploration phase and another for those with specific target places, providing a more personalized page.

Early Design

Redesign

Offer a customized webpage according to the destinations chosen by users to minimize constant lookup for particular sites.

Place the primary action button in the center position after users review the introduction about the locations.

Replace the 'Add to Trip' icon with 'Add to Wishlist'.

According to interviews, all users prefer to collect first, then arrange them into a trip.

2.1b Search Assistant

Based on user testing feedback, users struggled to initiate the search function as they found the app overwhelmed them with too much information, leading to confusion about how to use it.

Early Design

Redesign

Provide a process step to allow users to easily change the contents of their input.

Guide users to provide answers step by step through questioning. And offer to explain the purpose of inputs.

Facilitate easy input and adjustment.

Prioritize displaying the main message.

Provide clear operational instructions and simplify the content on each page

Next Step

Integrate planning and booking functionalities

In order to address user pain points, this project aims to provide a tool for users to organize their trips on-site. The first phase involves designing trip planning functionality, followed by the development of trip booking features, including accommodations, transportation, and tickets.

Continue to iterate the product

Conduct ongoing usability testing and continuously refine the design based on feedback. Iterating on the product allows us to learn and grow. This cycle of product design is continuous, and we must monitor performance and gather feedback consistently.
